MORE SHEEP

Recently on a trip into Barnes Hobbies of Newcastle I picked up a bulk packet of Preiser sheep. After getting them home I started to modify them by cutting the tails from all 60 of them. Then Tamiya acrylic flat buff was applied and after drying a very thin wash of Tamiya sky grey was brushed on and then left to dry, next the chooks. As a footnote I have it on good authority that these sheep resemble Border Leicester Marino cross ewes. If you google Border Leicester Marino cross it will become clearer.

  1. Nice as always, Peter, but I can see that you haven’t read ‘Placing Livestock With Realism’ in AMRM Issue 293 (April 2012)! 😉

    Hi James.
Thank you for your comment. I have based the sheep placings on a trip in Oct 2013 to Castlemaine in Victoria via Gundagai, Wagga, Henty, Brockelsby, Corowa ,Shepparton, Beechworth, Bright and Bendigo with a return via Wagga ,Junee, Cootamundra, Murrumburrah, Boorowa and Crookwell. As you can imagine there were thousands of sheep grazing everywhere at the time in very green countryside. I also sourced numerous photos on the internet around Junee and Tumbarumba etc. However, I will read the article you mention when I am over at Peter Street’s next week, all for now. Regards Peter.

    • Peter,
If your sheep are based on Castlemaine, then you’re in good company. I grew up in the district and they sure know how to place ’em… Seriously, I spent a lot if time rounding the damn things up – you’ve got it about right. Julian

Hi Peter. Thanks for a great blog. It’s awesome to watch your layout develop just at the scene would in real life.

With the exit through the cutting, have you considered putting a track/road there with a bridge up against the backdrop? It would further take the eye of the train disappearing.

Excellent work – I wish I could do the same!!!

      HI Mick.
Thank you for your kind comment and interest.
When planning the layout I had thought of the very thing you suggest after a few visits to the area I came to the conclusion that a road bridge would be a bit out of place as the countryside is quite flat and with the module being only 1.8 mtrs long I thought that it would be too crowded. Thanks again regards Peter
